With your insurance policy, you can recover the financial losses and damages sustained, thus mitigating and solving an unfavorable and difficult situation. However, this cannot restore the situation your company enjoyed in the market before the loss. Therefore, prevention is the most sensible and suitable solution.
We hope you will find these tips useful for prevention:

In preventing and extinguishing a fire, tidiness and cleanliness are fundamental aspects.
- Use metal and closed containers and trash bins.
- Do not use sawdust to clean up oil spills or spills from other flammable liquids.
- The battery charger must be separated from any flammable point.
- Establish a smoking area.
- Do not allow waste to gather.

We need to take basic prevention measures at our facilities as well as in work duties or maintenance. All systems that are not properly handled are a source of serious hazards.
- Have lines equipped with automatic shutoff devices.
- Ensure that the work environment is safe.
- In wet or metal areas, use only portable, low voltage devices.
- Use standardized equipment and protection.
- Avoid proximity of corrosive substances in sewer system.
- Avoid the presence of grease or oil in piping.
- Prevent insulation or connections in poor condition.
- Avoid overloads.
- Keep ventilation systems clean.
- ESPECIALLY avoid any type of temporary installation.

| > Handling and storage of flammable liquids |

There are few precautions in handling these products: minor negligence may cause irreparable damage.
- Ensure that storage is outdoors and separate from the company´s buildings.
- Install at least a 9 kg powder fire extinguisher outside the storage area.
- Restrict use to authorized personnel.
- Clearly state that smoking near these products is prohibited.
- Always keep premises neat and clean.
- For storing small amounts, have metal cabinets that prevent them from leaking in the event of a spill.
- Paint only the inside of the cabins.
- Replace the painting cabin suction filters when appropriate. Do not save on throwing away filters after a single use.
- Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation.

| > Welding work |
<< Anterior
Siguiente >> |
It is the most common cause of loss from fire.
- Establish "cutting and welding" permission when tasks of this nature are going to be carried out.
- Clear the area of any combustible material that may be present in the surrounding area.
- Make sure there is no spark that could access an area not previously controlled through windows, doors, cracks, holes, suction systems, etc.
- Place proper extinguishing resources in the area where the operations are to be carried out.
- Have supports so the blowtorches are supported and thus cannot cause overheating or fires.
- Never put flammable materials near flames or heat sources.
- Always have a metal receptacle with water to pour on electrodes.

| > Portable fire extinguishers |

Speed is fundamental when avoiding fires. The portable fire extinguisher is the best way to put out fires.
- Properly distribute and label extinguishers.
- Place them where there is the greatest chance of fire. Make them visible with good access, close to exits.
- Train personnel how to use them. Conduct periodic drills.
- Maintain a maintenance contract with the dealer or installer.

| > Equipped fire hydrants |

It is possible that a network of fire hose cabinets may require a certain initial investment. However, it is worth it because in industry, they are capable of putting out major fires.
- They are made up of a cabinet, valve, hose, pressure gauge and nozzle with three purposes (jet-mist-close) permanently connected to the water main.
- They must be capable of supplying 100 to 200 liters of water at 5 kg/cm2 of pressure for one hour with two hoses operating simultaneously.
- They must be fixed to vertical walls or pillars 1.5 from the ground at most.
- The distance from any point on the premises to the nearest fire hose cabinet must not exceed 25 m.
- The fire hose cabinets must be perfectly labeled so they may be located without any difficulty.
- All personnel must be familiar with how it works. Therefore, it is advisable to conduct periodic drills with real fire.

When evaluating anti-theft measures, we should not consider only possibilities of theft. We should also consider destruction or other risks we run (fire, civil liability....)
- Install a proper security system in your company. If necessary, get specialized professionals to do it.
- Conduct periodic tests on the security system.
- Verify that the warning sensors are connected to the switchboard and that it is receiving the signal.
- Hire a specialized maintenance service.

| > Water damage |
<< Anterior
|
Experience shows that certain causes of water damage are repeated frequently. This damage can be avoided with simple and effective precautions. The cost of these precautions is infinitely inferior to the damages and losses produced.
- Always use a self-blocking mechanism between the network and the devices.
- When not using a device, always shut the water valve.
- Periodically check the resistance and flexibility of hoses and connections. Use rigid connections wherever possible.
- Periodically check the roof, especially after heavy rains or storms.
- Regularly clean and check the condition of tubes, gutters and piping that cross the roof.
- Shut and empty piping that is exposed to excessive cold, and make a visual inspection of the water system during periods of heavy frost.
- Store your goods on pallets; never directly on the ground.
